Running Rings

Running Rings was our official Inspire 2012 project that sprinted into action providing circular fitness routes in community woodlands to help people enjoy the great outdoors in the build up to the Games and beyond.

The Running Rings fitness routes across Merseyside and North Cheshire were launched in the run up to the Games, with one unveiled in May 2011 at Risley Moss Local Nature Reserve in Warrington.

Through the Access to Nature project, The Mersey Forest Team engaged communities around Mab Lane in Liverpool and St.Helens' Bold Forest Park. Green Gym sessions across The Mersey Forest helped residents to get into shape and help their local environment at the same time.

Local primary school teachers received training to become Forest School leaders so they can deliver outdoor lessons in woodlands - reconnecting children with nature and encouraging physical activity.
