Barn Owl breeding success in Northwich

02 July 2012

Great news from the Friends of Anderton and Marbury, the Northwich-based woodland community group that The Mersey Forest helps to support:

Over the past eight years, the volunteers and Cheshire West and Chester Council rangers have carried out a programme of work to encourage barn owls to breed in the Northwich Woodlands. This year has seen their efforts rewarded, with the first recorded breeding barn owls on the site.

While due to bad weather only one of the four chicks has survived, the group hopes that the youngster fledges successfully and that they will have barn owls breeding regularly in Northwich Woodlands in future years. Thanks go to the Mid Cheshire Barn Owl Group for their help and support with this project.
