A new village hall in Backford, near Chester has been supported by The Mersey Forest to plant over 280 trees around the edge of the hall's site.

The community turned out in force in March 2022 to help plant the trees around the recently constructed village hall, which opened in October 2021.  The Mersey Forest's community forester provided support on the community planting day, offering guidance on planting technique and an overview of the types of trees being planted.

Part of the planting included a 42-metre-long hedge across the entrance of the site, with further trees planted at the rear, on an area created from spoil during the halls construction. A mix of broadleaf trees were selected for the site, including Hawthorn, Oak, Birch and Willow.  The trees, which were funded through the Trees for Climate programme, will help to add some additional green space and shading for the area, and will provide additional habitat for local wildlife.
