Community growing area promotes healthy eating in Runcorn

01 October 2013

A new community allotment has been officially opened at Brookvale Community Centre in Runcorn.

The garden was opened at an annual summer fun day which attracted scores of people to the community centre.

Over £300 was raised on the day to support local community groups.

The project was funded by local chemicals manufacturer INEOS ChlorVinyls through the Landfill Communities Fund and coordinated by Groundwork Cheshire as part of The Mersey Forest.

Jo Sayers, Community Development Officer at The Mersey Forest, said: "It's been great to be involved in this project.

"The growing area initiative will produce fresh seasonal food to be grown, prepared and eaten by centre users, while promoting healthy eating, green exercise and new gardening skills to Runcorn residents."
